Here’s another one from Tiesta Tea! This time it’s a zesty green tea in their slenderizer line of teas. Lean Green Machine is a blend of green tea, lemongrass, orange and lemon peel, bergamot oil and natural flavors. Isn’t it so pretty, too?! I love all the big chunky pieces.

As this tea steeps it looks and smells very vegetal. The tea leaves and other pieces expand, taking up a lot of room in the teapot! The smell is very fresh, of lemons a grass. As far as taste, for me, the most prominent flavor is the bergamot. Maybe because I’m used to tasting it in black tea? Or maybe because the orange peel and lemon peel act to accentuate the flavor? No mater, it tastes good – flavorful without being flowery. On second steep I found the lemongrass much more noticeable than in my first cup. So, that was fun!

Taste: 4 of 5 leaves: Quite a good cuppa!
Steepability: 3 of 5 tea leaves –  This tea is a bit delicate.

Served: Just a touch of honey

This is a delicious green tea. It has a clean, crisp, and just slightly green/earthy taste. For me the bergamot, lemon, and orange notes rounded out the green tea and softened the sometimes harsh taste of typical green teas. It’s a pretty tea that opened up to reveal big full leaves! I love when the steeped tea looks almost like fresh-picked picked leaves! This is a good choice to keep in the cupboard as a solid stand-by solid green tea.

Taste: 4.5 of 5 leaves: Quite a good cuppa!
Steepability: 3 of 5 tea leaves – This tea is a bit delicate.

Review: Good Earth Lemongrass Green Tea

Tea Type: Bagged
Temperature: below boiling point
Steeped: 2 minutes
Served: Nothing added

It seems like the flavor of lemongrass is one of those things that either you love it or you hate it. I love it! In this tea, i found the lemongrass flavor to be subtle rather than punch-you-in-the face. This might be because I didn’t steep it for long, trying not to end up with bitter green tea. The result was a light and fragrant tea, prefect for looking towards spring. I often drink green tea in the afternoon, because I like the way it tastes and it has less caffeine. Good Earth Lemongrass Green Tea made a nice afternoon treat!

Give this tea a try if you like green tea, like me! Be warned, however, if you are looking for a lot of lemongrass, you wont find it here. This tea would be better suited for those who like a hint of lemongrass or are just trying it out. Also, lemongrass is supposed to repel mosquitoes, so that’s a bonus – bring it with you into the back yard!

Taste: 3.5 of 5 tea leaves – A decent tasty tea.
Steepability: 4 of 5 tea leaves – This tea requires very little effort.

Review: David’s Tea Some Velvet Morning

My life has been pretty hectic lately with March Madness just wrapping up, weddings, and the PBA tour being in town, so I was feeling really run down this morning. Then I remembered that I had some David’s Tea Some Velvet Morning in my cupboard. Just the pick-me-up I needed. First off, this tea is organic. Love that. Secondly, it contains a blend of green tea, orange peel, lemongrass, dandelion root, some berries I’ve never heard of and orange oil. This makes for a very tasty cuppa! The green tea and lemongrass make this tea soft and velvety (hence the name?) to drink, and the orange peel and oil add a bright citrus quality to wake you up. I also find this tea mild and very easy to drink. It may get strong if steeped longer and I’ll try that on my second steep, but in this case its mild nature works well for me.

Overall, I LOVE this tea! It’s organic, so I feel good about drinking it. Then the ingredients blend to make a soothing, yet bright tea that goes down easy. In fact, I think I’m feeling better already and I can see pilates workout in my future.

Taste: 5 of 5 leaves – Outstanding! A MUST try.
Steepability: 3 of 5 leaves — this tea is a bit delicate, but well worth the effort.
