Kickstarter: #Teplobottle – The Smart Bottle for Tea Lovers

Image from Teplo Kickstarter page

Hey there tea friends!

Just a quick note to make sure you are all aware of the awesome kickstarter going on right now. Shockingly, I didn’t know about it until my friend Michelle sent me the link. Thanks for keeping me in the loop, Michelle!

As of today there are only 17 days left for this project to get fully funded, so make sure you head over to check it out. Click here.

Teplo is a smart glass bottle that is paired with an app to not only help you steep your tea perfectly, but also keep it warm for you! How cool is that?! The design is super simple and sleek, but the technology that makes it work is anything but that. I’m sure this isn’t for everyone, but it’s pretty cool nonetheless. I’m sure I’ve done a terrible job at actually explaining this, so check out the link and watch the video ūüôā

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for us! Click the link below to see the full review of our work in 2014!  Wishing you all a happy and healthy 2015 filled with love and good tea.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 9,200 times in 2014. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 3 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Newport, RI Tea Shops

Empire Tea and CoffeeWhile in Newport, RI recently we were on the hunt for a good cuppa! Lucky for us, we found some at Empire Tea and Coffee on the conner of Bellevue and Memorial. We tried the Cream Earl Grey (with milk added) and the White Tea Pomegranate (with a bit of sugar). It was down pouring all day, so nice hot tea really hit the spot! BTW, I snapped the above photo about 2 nanoseconds before the clouds opened up. How awesome am I?

We also stumbled across Teas and Javas down by the water on Thames the following day, but didn’t get a chance to stop in. ¬†Its on the list for next time!Tea and Java
A note about other tea options: A while ago Katie wrote about her teatime trip to Spring Seasons Inn.  A great spot if you are looking for a sit-down tea. On the flip side, The Spice and Tea Exchange on Thames has moved downstairs to a new location. We have reviewed several of their teas. One of our favorites is the Mystic Dragon.

Oh yeah, we also stopped by The Breakers while we were in the neighborhood…

Recyclable K-cups?

Previously not a thing, but thanks to Mother Parker’s Eco-cup launch it is now a thing! ¬†There are a few reasons why, in the past, k-cups have been my last resort for steeping tea. ¬†Not being able to recycle the used k-cup was one of the biggest issues. Its seems that this is beginning to change. With Mother Parker’s design, the k-cups will be recyclable as a #6, and it seems that it will also be easier access the tea leaves to compost them. Hooray!

Check out the press release here.

Higgins & Burke tea is currently available in the Eco-cups.  Also, it looks like Numi Tea is planning to use the Mother Parker product for their tea.

EqualiTEA

On a day where marriage equality is everywhere in the news it seems appropriate to share that Brisbane-based tea brand Slurp has launched a campaign titled ‚ÄúEqualiTEA.” 100% of the profits will be donated to the Queensland Association for Healthy Communities (www.qahc.org.au) and to the Marriage Equality documentary ‚ÄúLove Like Yours.‚ÄĚ

DR MATTHEW HYND, Chief Tea Guru at SLURP, said the idea was to help raise his company’s profile while promoting the issue of Marriage Equality.

The EqualiTEAs have awesome names like: Uncle Gertrude, Haus of Fierce, Unleash Me, Love Box, No Tea No Shade, Queen Bea and Love Like Yours.

Check out www.slurptea.com.au for announcements on the EqualiTEA campaign.

The Tea Bag, A Hero!?

Check out this site, Hidden Heroes, that¬†I stumbled across the other day … its cool, I promise.¬† If you are like me and like learning little tid bits here and there, it will be worth it.¬† Ok, so now you are asking, what’s this got to do with a tea bag, huh?¬† Well, on this interactive site the folks from Vitra Design Museumare honoring some hidden heroes, the humble tea bag included (see Forward Museum Tab for more info about what “Hidden Hero” specifically means).

Here is the scoop … click this link and hover over the colorful little bars.¬† An item will pop-up and you can select whether or not you want to know more about it. How’s that for interactive!¬† Then, enter the site and it will take you through all of the items you selected and why each is a Hidden Hero.¬† I’ll admit it, I spend quite a little while checking all this out and of course LOVED that they included the tea bag. Of course, this little guy made tea so more accessible and portable that it really opened up a new world for tea drinkers… and it came about by accident! ¬†So cool.

Make sure to check out the Overview, Discovering the Hero, the Gallery and the Visitor Contributions.

This exhibit is not just online, you can check it out in person.¬† The Hidden Heros: The Genious of Everyday Thigns is on tour in London through November 9th, if you so choose to visit.¬† Sadly, that wont be in the cards for me, but¬†it will move to the MIT Museum in Cambridge, MA from September through December 2012!¬†I hope you find this as fun as I did.¬† In fact, I think I’ll check back to see if I missed anything the last time around.

A collection of 100 tea cups was donated to the Deming Luna Mimbres Museum in Deming, New Mexico Рhow cool is that!  This collection was donated by Lynn Horrigan Doyle and belonged to her parents, Matthew and Agnes Horrigan.  They had collected tea cups from all over the world and now the entire collection can be viewed at the museum.

Sadly, I will not be making the trip to see them… but maybe you will!
