Review: Stash Guayusa and Chocolate Tea

Stash Tea was kind enough to send us samples of their teas from their pyramid tea bag collection to review.* Thank you!

Overall Rating:

Stash Guayusa and Chocolate tea is a terrific blend of flavorful tea and little bits of chocolate! There is a hint of sweetness, but mostly to robustness of the tea is accented with more savory notes of the chocolate. I actually drank my first of cup very quickly because I was so amused by the taste of the tea and chocolate blend. And you better beleive that I would have had another cup right away if I didn’t need to be careful of caffeine. Although technically an herbal tea, guayusa is caffeinated.

This tea would be great for anyone looking some a little different in a dessert tea. It is more savory than sweet and more tea than dessert, but in my opinion hits the spot!

I am totally loving the look of these new pyramid tea bags! Also, the dessert themed flavors are right up my alley. My first thought when tasting this tea was that it has a roasted taste like oolong. This rich tea flavor bends well with the hints of semi-sweet chocolate. Although I do have a sweet tooth I like this tea unsweetened for the rich combination of flavors. To me this tea has an appeal similar to a robust dry red wine. It’s probably not for everyone but those who like it are really going to enjoy it.

I have only two suggestions for improvement. This tea, while flavorful, is a small amount for a big mug. Steep a small cup or use two tea bags. Also, as I’ve said in previous reviews, I think the strings on the new pyramid bags are a little too short.

*Please note that we are just as critical of free teas as the ones we purchase. If we get a sample we don’t like we won’t include it on our blog.
