Is there anything better than sharing a pot of tea and a little snack with a good friend?  That is just what Katie and I had the pleasure of doing for this tea review.  We sipped our Rishi Tea Organic Golden Yunnan and munched some Big Sky Bread Company English Muffin toast, topped with Stonewall Kitchen Sugar Plum Jam.  Not surprisingly, all of these things came together well.  The richness of the tea was matched well by the prefect texture and taste of the toast and jam.  This combo is highly recommended and sharing it all with someone special didn’t hurt either!

This tea was very enjoyable and for a strong tea, very easy to sip.  Immediately the rich, caramel color was the first thing I noticed.  It looked striking in my white teacup – very alluring!  In my first tastes it was strong and bold in flavor, but not at all overpowering.  In the following sips smoothness and even flavor came though.

For someone looking for strong tea packing a pretty good caffeine punch, but hoping to avoid that astringent taste that sometime goes along with it, I would suggest this tea for sure.  Although this tea is easily drinkable, its zing is there.

Since my teapot only steeps about two cups at a time, after our first cup we decided to re-steep the tea leaves, just to see.  The result was good.  We let the tea re-steep for an extra couple of minutes (five to six).  I was happy with how the re-steep turned out.  It was much less strong, and the flavor was subdued somewhat.  However, because this tea has a strong well-balanced flavor, it held up well the second time around– just a bit weaker.

Although I typically have a sweet tooth, I drank this tea without any cream or sugar. It must have been the sweetness from the jam I was eating with it that kept me from adding honey to this tea. In the past I have enjoyed this tea with a little bit of cream and sugar, and it’s good that way too…especially if you’re not pairing it with food and enjoy sweets!

I love this tea because it’s a nice strong black tea but, as Abby told you, it doesn’t easily get a bitter taste. The “golden” right in this tea’s name is an accurate descriptor. It is golden in color and also has a strong but warm almost mellow taste.  It’s like a cup of sunshine! After you steep your first cup/pot save your tea strainer! The 2nd cup is light, but still a very nice taste.
